What kind of change do we want?
(a note from Amy in early December 2024)
Change matters, after all. And I believe that our clients, past and current, understand what we mean. But as we pick ourselves up from a difficult November and step forward into December and beyond, I feel a need to articulate what kinds of change and what kind of impact we’re actually going for. Honestly not sure I can. Is it too much to say that we dream of an equitable, regenerative, and connected world with economic and social systems that nourish life and community and that are based on compassion and collective love rather than fear? That we want to preserve what is generative, disrupt and dismantle what harms, and together, build what promises to be transformative?
Maybe not too much, but possibly too abstract. I don’t know what a world like that might look like or what path will get us there, but I do know what it feels like when we are moving closer and when we are moving away.
What ChangeMatters is offering.
In this time, when division seems to be winning over respect for difference and when democracy feels to be flagging, we will try to stay open, steadfast, and focused on the work directly in front of us. We take the responsibility to help build that future world seriously, and in this modest microbusiness, we are imperfectly and actively investing our experience and resources into doing what we understand and what we can do — tangibly, collaboratively, and in solidarity. So that’s where we will continue to work: supporting leaders of social change nonprofits to develop organizational strategy and resources.
Appreciation, connection, and courage for change.
In this moment, I just want to pause and appreciate your particular work toward generative change. If you’re interested in this page, you’re in this work. Connection and courage feel like everything right now. And I hope and trust that we stay connected, supporting and challenging each other in the work ahead.
