Amy Kincaid is the Founder and Principal of ChangeMatters, Benefit LLC
I am excited to announce that starting late July 2014, I will serve as Senior Associate with the Institute for Conservation Leadership. This new role will zoom in on my passion for strengthening organizations, extend my interest in sustainability, and allow me to experience, I hope, a healthier work-life balance.
My personal decision, of course, means change for ChangeMatters. Beginning August 2014, our team will not take on any new project obligations. We will, however, continue to fulfill commitments to all our clients with the help of associates and affiliated consultants.
What may seem like radical change actually reflects much reexamination and right timing.
When I launched ChangeMatters as a solo business project in 1998, I set out to assist social change leaders with what I knew (grantseeking and fundraising) and with what I was passionate about (organizational development). And with the vague idea of softening the sharp line between nonprofit and for-profit activity.
Over 15 years, I had the good fortune to grow my business with amazing clients in social enterprise, the arts, Indian Country, international development, sustainable agriculture, education, and economic development.
Along my journey, I met tireless changemakers in the nonprofit and business worlds and developed meaningful relationships with extraordinary colleagues. My team also helped raise a lot of money for good causes and asked a lot of tough questions.
Our job was to provide the spark or support that enabled organizations to experience breakthroughs in fundraising, capacity, and growth. Our work involved reflection, challenge, coaching, and support. Our intention was to serve as informed allies, trusted enthusiasts, and critical friends.
We may have missed some opportunities, but we got a lot of things right. For me, the “true north” was always helping leaders make the necessary changes to generate the resources needed to do the work that matters.
During the past year, I and my ChangeMatters colleagues have undertaken a significant internal dialogue about growth in line with our personal passions and interests.
For myself, it means more activity in the areas of sustainability and higher education. For Ryan, it means growing more strategic communications resources and impact investing benefit opportunities for local social enterprises outside the U.S. For Paulina, it means generating more activity in communications, major event planning, and international development.
The changes for ChangeMatters, therefore, come with the full support and engagement of the entire team.
To the many innovators and dreamers who trusted ChangeMatters to serve as counsel, witness, and cheerleader to your ideas—my sincerest gratitude.
To my team and cadre of accordion staff—thanks for sharing your skills, smarts, creativity, and good spirit; deep appreciation for your enduring commitment and steady support; and best wishes for success and satisfaction on your own paths.
And to all friends, colleagues, and allies—thanks for walking (and sometimes scurrying) with me so far. I look forward to continuing to meet up in our work toward building a better world.
